Very Good Place to Live!

Uptown Tower is a 9-story Senior & Disabled HUD-subsidized apartment building. There are 8 floors of apartments, but the top floor is the 7th floor. I'm sure they did this just to confuse us. The bottom floor is a retail space on Burnside Street. The first floor of apartments is "L" for lobby floor. It was built in 1983. It was just purchased by the company that manages it, Guardian Management, and it is going to be renovated very soon. There are 72 units. All but two have balconies, and all units are 1-bedroom. They are good sized for subsided apartments, and there is plenty of storage space. They are nice, but getting a little worn. But, like I said, the building is going to be remodeled soon. Most handicapped units have two balconies, and the bathroom is in the bedroom in those units. We have a community room with computers, and Internet available 24 hours a day. We have 3 laundry rooms. It is a secure building. There is a waiting list for parking, but it is free when you do get it. I have been here two and a half years, and I am still waiting for a space. But stores and banks, and everything you need is within a few 4 blocks of the building, and public transit is right outside the door. The neighborhood is pleasant, and safe. There is a 24-hour convenience store right across the street, and beautiful Washington Park is right up the hill. Pets are welcome, smoking is not! The entire building is a non-smoking building, and this is strictly enforced. The building is maintained well for its age. The manager, and assistant manager are wonderful. They are professional, and friendly. They are really good to the residents. If you have an apartment on the Burnside Street side it can get a little noisy at times, but most people get used to that quickly. This a HUD building and there is a waiting list to get in. It took me 5 months, but the wait is now longer. It is worth the wait! Rent is %30 of your income.
